Moodle is the software used to run this website.

It allows schools to create mini-websites for each class, taking classrooms online in a secure way.

Moodle is the short name for Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment.

Taking classrooms online

Teachers will be able to create mini-websites for each of their classes. These are called courses in Moodle. When a student logs in to Moodle, he or she will get access to the courses they need.

These courses are available to students at any time, from any location (in or out of school). This makes them particularly useful for completing homework, doing coursework and also for catch-up and revision.

Students can also use Moodle to discuss work with their teachers outside of normal lesson time. These discussions can be opened up to benefit everybody in the class.

How it works

The picture below shows a what a typical course may look like. It is arranged as a series of topics running down the page.

Within each topic, the teacher can place links to...

  • Resources (e.g. websites, documents, class handouts, etc.)

or...

  • Activities (e.g. discussion forums, homework assignments, group tasks, quizzes, chatroom sessions, etc.).

Activites within Moodle allow teachers to grade and provide written feedback to students about their work.
